Portraiture Workshop with Ian Wolter
In this fun, friendly workshop you will learn to create a life-size clay bust of a live model. You’ll be taught by Ian Wolter, a local, award winning sculptor.
Week One
You'll be introduced to the tools and materials and then straight away will begin building mass while ensuring the right angle of the neck and shape of the skull. You'll also learn how to measure the subject.
Week Two
This week you’ll sculpt the nose and mouth. At each step Ian will explain the anatomy as well as the techniques needed to create a likeness. During each session we’ll have a coffee break and talk about art!
Week Three
We’ll begin by creating the chin, cheeks and brows and then move on to creating the eyes… As we progress Ian will suggest books and tools you might need if you decide to continue with sculpture.
Week Four
Finishing the eyes and then tackling the ears. You’ll find that each time a new element is completed you will have to make adjustments elsewhere.
Week Five
This week we’ll tackle hair and will move on from creating a likeness to creating an artwork. At the end of the fifth session your bust will be complete.
Week Six
You will learn how to hollow your bust so it can be fired by Wightman Gallery.
